What Actually Happens

Here's what a Tuesday afternoon looks like.

Side-by-side passing under a huge Red River Gorge rock arch
First 10 minutes

Everybody goes quiet.

Big grey rock overhead, the trail dropping into the trees. Your kid stops narrating everything and just watches. This isn't a paved scenic loop — it's the private Red River Gorge trail system hikers and kayakers rarely reach, real Appalachian rock under real tires.

Guide leading a second side-by-side down a private Red River Gorge trail
Then the guide leads in

No maps. No wrong turns. No "are we lost?"

Your guide is a few feet ahead in their own machine, reading every rock, ridge, and creek crossing so you don't have to. You just follow, drive, and watch your kid's face light up every time the trail drops down toward water.

By the creek crossing

They won't stop talking about it.

Water splashes up over the hood. Your kid's grinning in the mirror, already asking to do it again. You're driving — they're not asking "how much longer." That's the whole afternoon, three hours long.

Kim, your Coalbank Holler guide, at the wheel in a Red River Gorge creek bed
★ Guided by a Red River Gorge local

Hundreds of hours on these trails. I'll ride every mile with you.

I'm Kim, your guide. I moved to Red River Gorge because this place gets under your skin — and after hundreds of hours leading tours through it, it still does. I know where the creek runs shallow and which ridge line gives you the shot you'll never stop looking at.

I lead every single tour. Machines are inspected before every ride. Seatbelts, inspected machines, real safety — handled, so all you do is drive and enjoy it. I keep groups small, so your family gets my full attention.

Is This You?

Made for some riders. Not for others.

This is for you if…

  • You're a family looking for a day the kids will still talk about at Christmas
  • You want a guided self-drive adventure on real rock
  • Drivers must be 25+ with a valid license — riders of any age welcome
  • You've got kids — they're welcome in any machine

Maybe not, if…

  • You want to rent-and-roam solo with no guide
  • You're after a paved, scenic golf-cart cruise
  • You'd rather not follow a guide's lead on the trail
  • You're not up for creek crossings, mud, and a few bumps

Common Questions

Everything you need before you book.

Do I drive, or does the guide?
You drive. Your guide leads the group in one machine and you drive the rest — following their line through rock, creek, and forest. It's a guided, self-drive experience: the fun of driving, with a local who knows every rock.
Can I bring my kids?
Yes — kids are welcome in any machine; every seat has a belt. Want the enclosed, climate-controlled cab for them? It's first-come — ask when you arrive. All drivers must be 25+ with a valid license; riders can be any age.
Which machine should I pick?
Family day or comfort-first crew? The roomy Ridge Crew. Want the enclosed, heated-and-cooled cab? One's available first-come — ask when you arrive. Want a smooth cruise that still handles the big rock? The Teryx KRX4. Want a sportier feel on the trail? The Honda Talon. You can rent 1–4 machines and mix them across your group. Still unsure? Take the 30-second quiz.
Can I bring my own machine?
Yes — bring your own SXS and follow your guide on a personalized 3-hour tour of our Red River Gorge trails. $130 per machine, walkie talkie included, up to 5 machines per tour. See the Bring Your Own Machine tour →
How long is the tour?
Three hours. We run two tours a day — a morning and an afternoon — and that's it. Small operation, private trails, full attention on your group.
Do I need off-road experience?
None. Your guide handles navigation and coaches you through the tricky spots. It'll get your heart going in a few places, but the whole route is safe and family-friendly.
What if it rains?
We ride rain or shine. Want to stay dry? An enclosed, heated-and-cooled cab is available first-come — ask when you arrive. Or embrace it and splash through the mud. Your call.
What's included?
Your machine(s), a professional local guide leading the ride, and the route. Machines are inspected before every ride. Bring water, snacks, layers, and a camera — there's room for a small cooler.
Where do I meet you?
After booking, you'll get a text with exact meetup coordinates. It's not a public address — that's part of what keeps these trails private.
What if I need to reschedule?
Free reschedule up to 7 days before your ride. Inside 7 days a $50 change fee applies. If we ever can't provide a machine or guide on your date, we'll reschedule first — and refund you if that's not possible.
